My husband and I were in a meeting the other day. During the meeting the woman with whom we were talking described her personality and her husband's personality as it relates to their outlook on life. She was illustrating how well she and her husband fit together because she tends to be a little more on the uptight side. In her words, she said she is a "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" type of a person, and her husband is much more the "everything will work out just fine" and lets everything roll off his back kind of a guy. As she was talking, unbeknownst to each other, my husband and I had the very same epiphany...we are both "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" type of individuals. Of course, each of us thinks the other is more extreme in their "the sky is falling" way of thinking, and in this case he is probably right. I am the more uptight of the two of us. Don't tell him I admitted this! We also both decided that we really want to be more of the let it roll off our backs type of a guy and gal. This is easier said than done. Now that our transition from our old career to our new career is going along smoothly, much of the stress really has lifted. However, I have come to realize that stress is a habit. Over the weekend I felt myself getting tense and stressed out, only to realize that I really didn't need to be because what I thought I was getting stressed about doesn't exist in my life anymore. My body is just preprogrammed to feel this way. Wonderful. They say that it takes 21 days to either break a habit or begin a new healthier one. I believe I am on about day four of my new laid back attitude. I've had a few small set backs so far (bad hair days don't just disappear because you have decided to be more even-keeled...who knew?), but I am optimistic that I can do this.
What kind of person are you? If you are the laid back variety, any and all suggestions on how to get there will be greatly appreciated!
