This Week's Prediction

P.S.  I have no idea why this whole post looks like it is a link. It is not.  As usual my technical abilities astound even me, but I don't have time to try to fix it right now.  Sorry!

Last night was disappointing for me.  The two dances showcased were the Rumba and the Paso Doble (no idea if that is spelled right).  I am not the biggest fan of either of these dances, I find them a touch boring.  Feeling that way about the dances may have contributed to my feeling of disappointment...but I really felt that all the stars had a very off night.  No one really stood out to me as fantastic, most were middle of the road...just o.k.  No one was even particularly awful when compared to everyone else, just blah.

I still don't have a favorite, but I do have a least favorite.  For the second week in a row, I will say that Kim Kardshian is my least favorite and I want her to bid us farewell.  I fear, however, that she may stick around.  Cloris Leachman is clearly not going to win, but I think she deserves so much credit for trying and deserves to stick around a little longer, but she may be going.  The other performer on the ropes is Rocco deSpirito.  The judges really did not like his performance last night.  I didn't think it was that bad, but it may have pushed him out the door.

Because it is what I am hoping for, I am going with Kim gets the boot.  I am nothing if not an optimist. 

Random Musings ;) 9

This will be a shorter than normal "random musings" , but random nonetheless.

Well, I was wrong, wrong, wrong about who went home on Dancing with the Stars.  It was Ted McGinley (too bad in my opinion, he seemed like he had potential), and not Kim Kardashion...the "snooze fest" as one of my commenter's ( you should check her out, she is a witty gal) described her.  I guess I grossly underestimated the power of the booty when it comes to generating votes.  Oh well, here's hoping that she is either vastly improved this week, or that her boring booty finally gets the boot.

Remember a couple of weeks ago, I shared with you that my son competed in his first triathlon?  And that he had inspired me?  Well one week from today, we are running together in our first 5K run.  We are running to benefit Bear Necessities, an organization dedicated to eliminating pediatric cancer and giving hope and support to those touched by it in their lives.  We are both really excited, and I am also very nervous

This Week's Prediction

It's back...Dancing with the Stars, and my uncanny (ahem) ability to predict who will be going home each week.

The 3 night premiere extravaganza started on Monday with all stars dancing either the Cha Cha Cha or the Fox Trot, it continued last night with all but one couple (the first to get the boot) dancing either the Mambo or the Quick Step, and will rap up tonight with another couple being eliminated from competition.

Overall, I must say that I am feeling pretty good about this season's competition.  I wasn't overly thrilled when the line up was announced, but all the stars really seem to want to be there AND so far, for the most part, they are all doing really well.  It seems to me to be the most level field in several seasons.  No super stand out yet, and only a couple of complete duds.  Should make for interesting viewing over the next several weeks.

The first star to be eliminated was comedian Jeffrey Ross.  For the record, I predicted this exit even though I do not have proof of it in writing.  He seemed like a genuinely nice guy and very disappointed to be going home.  However, he really could not dance and did not show much promise for improving.  It was absolutely the right choice.

So who is going home tonight? 

In the weeks to come I think that the elimination will get harder and harder to predict, since as stated earlier, there are several stars that are all at about the same skill level.  However last night, one star just really didn't cut it.

I need to digress here for just a second to talk about Cloris Leachman.  She is by no means one of the better dancers, but she is absolutely hilarious and I adore her moxie!  I for one think she is going to stick around for a few weeks, simply because the voters are going to want to see what she does and says next.  This week alone she has thrown her leg up on the judges table, tried to bribe the judges for a "10" score with $10.00 bills, and had to be bleeped several times in reaction to the judges scores.  Somehow, it is not off putting, but endearing, and just too much fun to watch.  I am so impressed that she even wanted to do the show!  I hope I am half as energetic and exuberant as she when I am 82!

O.K. back to who is going home tonight...

Kim Kardashian.  The girl simply has no moves.  She is lovely and has one of the world's most famous rumps around, but she does not know how to shake it.  She and her partner, Mark Ballas, did the Mambo to "I Like Big Butts" by Sir Mix A lot ( I know this song is  now going through your head if you are familiar with it , you're welcome).  I mean if you are going to call attention to it, you've gotta work it and work it she did not.  Sorry Kim, it is time to take your leave of the dance floor.

I do not have a favorite yet, but am looking forward to the weeks to come.  How about you?

Oil and Water

  Did you watch the Emmy Awards?  I tried to, I wanted to, I couldn't stomach it.  I have been a long time awards show fan, mostly because of the fashion, but also I enjoy seeing my favorites win awards for performances I really enjoyed. 

However, last night was truly a disappointment.  I watched for all of about 5 minutes before I had had enough.  Get ready, I will be on my soapbox for a moment or two now.

Note to Hollywood...An awards show is neither the time nor the place to shove your political opinions down our throats just because you have the microphone for a few minutes.   Of the five or six acceptance speeches I managed to suffer through only Don Rickles did not go down the political road.  His speech was funny, charming and genuinely thankful.  Hello everyone else, you should take a lesson.  When you receive an award please accept it with grace and genuine gratitude, not with anger, pique, and an agenda.  I stopped watching.  Political speak and an acceptance speech simply go together like oil and water...they don't.

Now on to the most important issue of the evening.  Best and worst dressed.  There were many ladies who were elegant and lovely, but this year I am giving the award to Christina Applegate.  She looked beautiful and fresh and I admire her strength  and grace in dealing with her cancer.

Worst dressed goes to none other Alyssa Milano.  This look from hairdo to shoes is less than "Charming"!  Really what could she have been thinking?

 

Guess What?!

Somebody still loves me, AND wishes I would post more!  My friend Fannie at This Isn't what I Ordered just gave me these two lovely and much appreciated awards.

    

Thank you Fannie, you made my day by giving me these awards!  I feel woefully undeserving based on my number of posts recently, but now I know that at least you would welcome more from this little ole Diva, I will do my best to get back on my game.

I will now pass these beauties on to a few very deserving young ladies of the blogosphere.  Two of them I have mentioned to you in the past and two are first time recipients of awards from me.

First to Chased by Children, mostly because if I don't give it to her she will most likely devote an entire post to the fact I did not, in fact, give her the award.  Really she has done it before.  Also, because she is my dear friend and really does deserve them, because she is "Kick Ass" and she "Makes My Day" whenever I see her!

Next up is Add Humor and Faith.  Believe it or not she is the mom of Chased by Children and she does a fantastic job.  Her writing is terrific and I think that being a grandma blogger just rocks!

Willow is a newer friend, but deserving just the same.  She is always good for a great comment or two and I love the name of her blog...Days of Whine and Roses...O.K. I Lied About the Roses is just too fabulous!

Last but not least Lynette at A Day in the life of the Ordinary.  she has always been marvelous, but she recently moved to a whole new state and I believe could use the love!

Check out these wonderful ladies, I know you will love them as much as I do.  And thanks again, Fannie.  You definitely made my day!

Good for What Ails Ya

I know it is probably a silly notion that in all the craziness that is our lives these days anyone would ever get indigestion or heartburn, but on the off chance that you do...I have found the cure!  This cure does not require a trip to the doctor or the pharmacy.  It is as simple as stopping by Trader Joe's (which is a fabulous store anyway, so what's not to love about having a reason to go there to shop?) and picking up a sack of organic candied ginger chunks.  Eat a couple of these little wonders and all your pain and discomfort is a thing of the past, and it is organic and natural so you are not consuming mass quantities of unknown chemicals which is always a bonus in my book.  But wait there's more...they only cost around $3.00 a bag, not $750,000.00 $10 - $15 like Pepcid and the like can cost.  Finding these little gems has been a blessing for our family, hope it works for you and yours as well!

He Rocked Out Loud!

I have many a topic to share with you, but I am going to keep it very current for today, because today our family had a truly amazing experience.  My son competed in a kid's triathlon being hosted by our health club.  It was his first triathlon.  It consisted of 2 lengths in the pool, a 2.5 mile bike ride, and a half mile run.  It has been pouring rain here for at least 48 hours straight...I am actually thinking about starting to build an Ark.  The rain did not stop for the competition and the competition didn't stop for the rain.

My son rocked, I mean in every sense of the word.  He was focused, excited, totally positive, composed and the personification of grace under pressure.  It was quite clear that many of the kids had previous experience, but he was not intimidated, he put his head down and raced his race.  Watching him compete through the whole thing was so exciting it is hard to describe the feeling.  Watching him sprint across the finish line, and I really do mean sprint...he didn't let up one bit and just went for it with his whole heart was exhilarating.  I, of course ,was whooping and hollering and screaming like a crazy woman was totally composed as he crossed the line.  He came in 3rd in his wave and 10th out of 43, 9 and 10 year old boys overall.  He can't wait to do the next one, and I can't wait to be there to cheer him on!  He truly inspired me, and being inspired by your child is quite magical. 

It seems like just another ordinary day, until you remember the date...then you realize it is not an ordinary day at all.

Today is a date in time that will never be forgotten.  To those of us old enough to remember, we know exactly where we were, when...and we will never forget those pictures.

September 11, 2001, the day 19 cowards tried in vain to bring this great country to its knees.  I don't think so!

Thank you to all the extraordinary men and women who currently fight or have fought for this great country and the freedom we all enjoy. 

I'm in the Weeds!

 

And I do not look even remotely as elegant as the woman in the picture either!  When I was a server in the restaurant business lo those many years ago, if any of the servers was EXTREMELY busy, we used to say "I'm in the weeds!"  Which basically means "I am so busy there is no possible way I am going to accomplish all I need to accomplish in the time frame in which I need to accomplish it without making someone mad or letting something fall through the cracks".  That would be me right now!  I really need to clone myself a couple of times or sprout several more sets of arms.

I thank you in advance for your patience, and I do promise I am going to try to be more on my game with this blog and commenting on all my favorite blogs in the future...I'm not sure exactly when...but I will be someday I promise.  I have so much to tell you!
